Handle with Care

We are not made to live alone
A heart unloved becomes a stone
We gaze around this planet bare
Wanting to latch on tight - somewhere.

As time and circumstance relate
It's not a cinch to find a mate
Occasionally we feel we've one
Only to topple - all undone.

Strong feelings are not known by all
And independence may enthrall
But when the chips are down - beware
It only holds if both sides care.
