All-Out War!

Verdant tendrils, roots deep spread
They spring up proudly and defy
The order of the flower bed
And each gardener’s patience try.

Whether stately home with gravel drive,
Or market square with paving stone
Despite our best attempts, weeds thrive
And uninvited make their home.

Resilient, they will find their way
Under brick walls or wire fence
Through tarmac on the motorway
Clamber up lamppost and bench.

It’s constant war – there is no truce
However much we spray and chop
Or hack and trample, it’s no use
Survivors all, they come out top!
